I’m Claire, a qualified therapist, and someone who knows what it’s like to live through loss, change, and uncertainty.
I grew up with an imperfect childhood, and in midlife, becoming disabled changed much of what I thought I knew about myself. It wasn’t only my body that changed, but my sense of identity, my relationships, and how I moved through the world. Being a midwife had been a big part of my life, and losing that left me unsure of where I stood.
Over time, I found myself reflecting on who I was beyond those losses. Looking at my own story more closely helped me to recognise not just the pain, but also the possibility for something different. That journey led me into counselling. What started as one course gradually became a degree, and a deeper understanding of myself. I now bring that into my work, walking alongside others as they make sense of their own experiences.
My background as a midwife, and my own experience of living with a chronic condition, both inform the way I work. They’ve given me an understanding of how life can shift in ways we don’t expect, and how deeply that can affect our sense of self and our relationships. I carry that into the room, offering a space where those experiences can be explored with compassion, care and understanding.
Kagami means “reflection” in Japanese, and for me it captures the essence of therapy: a space where we begin to see ourselves more clearly, not through judgment but through compassion. It is the invitation to turn inward, to find a state of introspection.
Kagami is also my daughter’s middle name, giving the name a personal meaning. It reflects the values that guide my work: love, resilience and connection.
