The Therapeutic Process

Therapy isn’t about fixing you, because you are not broken. It’s about understanding how you learned to cope, protect yourself, and get through life’s challenges. Many of our patterns are shaped by early relationships and experiences, often long before we had words for them.

My work is grounded in a person-centred approach, which means I see you as the expert in your own life. I don’t arrive with answers or judgement. Instead, I offer warmth, honesty, and a safe, supportive therapeutic relationship where you can explore what’s going on at your own pace.

Early experiences can shape how we attach to others, cope with emotions, and protect ourselves. These patterns may once have helped you survive, but they can later leave you feeling stuck. I may gently draw on psychodynamic therapy to explore how past experiences continue to influence present relationships, self-esteem, and emotional wellbeing.

We also carry beliefs absorbed from others - ideas about needing to earn love, stay strong, be perfect, or put yourself last. Alongside this, adult experiences such as illness, grief, relationship breakdown, or trauma can deeply affect your sense of identity.

Therapy offers a calm space to slow down and ask whether these patterns still serve you. Over time, old beliefs can loosen their hold, allowing greater self-understanding, emotional resilience, and authenticity to emerge.

Healing isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s about reconnecting with who you truly are, so life can feel more spacious, balanced, and aligned.

 


Sessions are £55 for 50 minutes or £45 for 40 minutes for young people age 13 - 17. I also offer a free 30-minute consultation so we can meet, explore what you're looking for, and decide together if we’re a good fit. It’s important to use this appointment before therapy sessions start.


What working together may look like

  • Free initial consultation
    A relaxed, informal conversation where you can ask questions, share what’s brought you here, and get a sense of me.

  • Beginning therapy
    We usually meet weekly, though this can be discussed. You set the pace. There is no pressure to perform, explain everything perfectly, or be “fixed.”

  • Building safety and trust
    Therapy isn’t a quick solution. Feeling safe, seen, and supported takes time, and we allow that process to unfold naturally.

  • Deepening the work
    When you’re ready, we may explore patterns, early experiences, coping strategies, and how your nervous system responds to stress and connection. Understanding these can open up new choices.

  • Growing into yourself
    The aim is not to change who you are, but to reconnect with yourself more fully and live with greater authenticity.

In our sessions, I hold the space with care, honesty, and respect. You lead the way, and I walk alongside you. There is no agenda and no pressure, only a deep trust in your inner wisdom. We work with what shows up, when it shows up, gently and at your rhythm.
