Women’s Issues & Therapy

At different stages of life, being a woman can place intense emotional, physical, and psychological demands on you. Pregnancy, motherhood, menopause, illness, or children leaving home can affect how you see yourself, your relationships, and your confidence.

You may look like you’re coping on the outside - but internally, something simply doesn't 'feel right'.
I offer online therapy for women who feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or no longer recognise themselves, and who want practical, emotional support to make sense of what’s happening.

If you’re considering therapy but unsure where to start, I offer a free, no-obligation introductory call.

This gives you space to:
- Ask questions
- Talk about what’s bringing you to therapy
- See whether working together feels right

You don’t have to reach breaking point.
You just have to decide you don’t want to keep feeling this way.

When Women Seek Therapy

Women often come to therapy not because one thing has gone wrong, but because everything feels harder than it should.

You may recognise yourself if you are:
- Emotionally exhausted from holding multiple roles
- Struggling with identity after life changes
- Experiencing anxiety, low mood, or loss of confidence
- Feeling disconnected from your body or sense of self
- Coping outwardly, but struggling internally

Therapy offers a structured, confidential space to understand what’s happening and begin to change it.

Pregnancy & Early Motherhood

Pregnancy and early motherhood can trigger anxiety, fear, and a loss of control over your body and identity - alongside pressure to feel grateful or fulfilled.

You may be struggling with:
- Anxiety during pregnancy
- Feeling disconnected from your body
- Fear of not coping or “getting it wrong”
- A growing sense of losing yourself

Therapy gives you space to talk honestly, manage anxiety, and reconnect with yourself during this major transition.

Pregnancy Loss & Reproductive Grief

Pregnancy loss can be deeply painful and isolating, especially when others don’t fully acknowledge your experience.

You may be experiencing:
- Grief that feels invisible
- Guilt, shame, or self-blame
- Loss of trust in your body
- Difficulty moving forward while still holding your grief

Therapy allows you to process loss at your own pace, without pressure to “move on.”

Menopause & Midlife Transitions

Menopause can affect your mood, confidence, memory, and emotional stability. You may feel unlike yourself and unsure why.

You might notice:
- Increased anxiety or low mood
- Reduced self-confidence
- Emotional volatility
- A sense of becoming invisible

Therapy can help you stabilise emotionally, understand what’s changing, and reconnect with who you are now.

Empty Nest & Identity After Parenting

When your children grow up and leave home, it can create a sense of loss, even if you feel proud of them.

You may be facing:
- Loneliness or low mood
- A loss of purpose or structure
- Changes in your relationship
- Anxiety about the future

Therapy can support you to redefine yourself beyond caregiving roles and build a life that feels meaningful again.

How I Can Support You

My approach is:
- Person-centred
- Trauma-informed
- Reflective and grounded in lived experience

Therapy isn’t about fixing you. It’s about understanding what you’ve been through, how it’s shaped you, and how you want to move forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can therapy help during pregnancy or early motherhood?

Absolutely. Pregnancy and early motherhood can bring anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and uncertainty, even when things appear to be progressing “normally.”

Alongside my work as a therapist, my background as a midwife means I have a strong understanding of the care pathways, pressures, and limitations within NHS maternity services, as well as the emotional realities women often carry alongside clinical care.

Therapy offers a confidential space to explore your experience honestly, including fears, expectations, and emotional responses that may not feel easy to voice elsewhere.

Do you work with women who have experienced pregnancy loss?

Yes. I work with women who have experienced pregnancy loss, and I understand how profoundly distressing and disorientating this can be.

When I was as a midwife, I spent many hours sitting with women who were experiencing pregnancy loss and related trauma. I saw first-hand how sudden and overwhelming these moments can be, and how clinical care often has to move forward while the emotional impact is left largely unspoken.

Therapy offers a space where your experience does not need to be minimised, explained away, or rushed. You are able to talk openly about what happened, how it has affected you, and what you may still be carrying, at a pace that feels safe, respectful, and supportive.

What if I’m struggling with body image, weight, or self-criticism?

Yes. Many women struggle with body image, weight, or harsh self-criticism, often shaped by long-standing expectations, comparison, or changes brought about by life events such as pregnancy, illness, menopause, or stress.

Therapy offers a space to explore your relationship with your body and yourself with curiosity rather than criticism. Together, we can look at where these patterns come from, how they are affecting you now, and how to develop a kinder, more grounded way of relating to yourself that feels realistic and sustainable.
